I hope you’re all having a fabulous week so far!
Now that summer is upon us, I am sooo looking forward to feasting on fruit and nuts and seeds and plants. I find that a lot of the cravings for comfort food I tend to have during the winter disappear as soon as it gets hot out.
Except ice cream. I will always want to eat ice cream 😉
But give me a bowl of fruit topped with a variety of crunchy nuts and seeds and I am one happy chick.
So when a box full of Ra Energy shakers and packets showed up at my door I was super excited!
I had tried Ra a few different times at different consumer trade shows, however I’d never had the ability to experiment with these delicious little seeds!
Ra is a ready-made mix of hemp seeds, unhulled sesame seeds, organic sprouted buckwheat, organic brown flax seeds, and organic chia seeds.
These seeds are packed with the highly desirable omega-3 fatty acids, plant-based protein, fiber, and antioxidants.
I already use most of these seeds in my day-to-day life, however having them packed together in a convenient shaker makes things waaay more convenient than adding a tablespoon of hemp hearts from one bag and a tablespoon of chia seeds from another bag.
And you know I’m all about convenience 😉
I’ve been sprinkling them on salads, on yogurt, and every so often I down a tablespoon when I feel like I need a bit of a nutty crunch in my life.
But one of my favourite things to do with them is mix them with oats! As much as I love my oatmeal, I’m not a huge fan of eating it plain. I often add chia seeds to it to thicken it up and make it feel like I’m eating more (volume eating, anyone?).
So after my muesli turned out to be a delicious success, one cooler morning I thought I would try some oats cooked with Ra for a power-packed breakfast before a tough brick workout.
I added 1.5 tablespoons of Ra to the oats as they were cooking to help absorb a bit of the water.
For an additional protein punch I also added two egg whites. While totally optional, I highly recommend it – you can’t even taste them! I promise 🙂
Once the oats and Ra were finished, I sprinkled another 1.5 tablespoons of Ra on top, along with a few other delicious ingredients.
The result was a delicious and filling breakfast that kept me satiated through a training session and the first portion of my brick workout.
