Hey there!

I’m excited to be participating in my blogging friend Marcia’s monthly linkup, Runfessions.

What is a runfession, you ask?Β It’s a chance to spill all your running/swimming/cycling/fitnessing dirt. An opportunity to cleanse your soul by confessing to the fitness gods, if you will.

So if you enjoy reading other peoples’ dirt (come on, I know you do), check out Marcia’s blog over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice to read the other posts!

But before we get started, I have a favour to ask of you πŸ™‚Β If you hang out with me on social media or subscribe to my newsletter you may have already heeded my request. So if you have, I thank you! But if you haven’t here goes:

I’m doing some research that is going to allow me to produce better blog posts and share more relevant topics on social media. I mean, I know what I like to write about, and I know what I THINK you need, but who better to tell me what you need than YOU!

I’ve put together a short survey that won’t take you more than 5 minutes, and it’ll give me the opportunity to learn a little more about you and your needs. It can be done anonymously, but if you’d like to go over your responses a little more in detail, there’s a spot for you to leave your name and contact info. This is 100% for research purposes only – no pitching πŸ˜‰

If you’re open to helping make the Evolution blog more valuable, you can fill out the survey here. Thank you in advance!

Now onto the runfessions….this is going to feel good.

runfessions

1. I have been out of “race training” mode for 5 days and I’m debating signing up for a marathon early next year.

I keep talking about how excited I am to be in my off-season now and to focus on my strength training and getting all beefy and stuff this winter, but secretly I have been thinking of continuing the running through the winter and finding a marathon to run early next year. Guess it’s not really a secret now πŸ˜‰ No promises though!

2. I haven’t been for a swim since August 13.

Oops. I had planned on keeping up with my swimming through the fall and winter so it wouldn’t be as awful when I get back into it next year like it was this year. But when there’s no impending triathlon and no fear of drowning in the ocean, I really can’t find the motivation to drag myself to an icky public pool.

3. I’m torn between my desire to continue running and cycling long distances through the winter and my desire to get jacked and grow my booty.

See how indecisive I am? Like 3 minutes ago I wrote about how I want to run a marathon. Now I just want to train my butt.

runfessions

4. I like to watch other people at the gym.

Not in a creepy “I like the way you move” kind of way. But in a “I’m intrigued by the way you move” kind of way. I enjoy watching peoples’ different movement patterns, especially the regulars at the gym because I can watch how they progress (or don’t). I’m never “that person” that offers unsolicited advice and sometimes I’m just genuinely interested in what people are doing, but I really hope my casual glances are never creepy and obvious.

5. I occasionally drink pre-workout before cleaning my apartment.

I’d like to set the record straight in that I don’t use C4 or anything scary like that anymore. I use Vega’s Sugar-Free Energizer which is basically just like nice-flavoured coffee, so that’s totally an okay thing to do. At least that’s what I tell myself.

So what runfessions do you have hiding in your closet? Let’s hear one! Leave a comment below πŸ˜€Β

And don’t forget to check out the other posts in this linkup! You can find them all here.

I feel you on #1 – I am starting to think about how to structure an “off-season” once I finish my half marathon. This fall I missed out on a lot of races I wanted to do, and I don’t want to make that mistake again!

It can be so tough to set a solid plan in place! There are too many fun activities and too many tempting races πŸ˜‰ I wish you the best!

Oh goodness you are SO funny! Maybe I need to try some pre-housecleaning pre-workout myself.
I am guilty as charged on wanting it “all”. Aka lifting over the winter but still running too. What’s up with us??
    Thanks for linking up!

If only we could recover like superhumans and had all the time in the world to train…we would be able to have it all!

ok love that you energize before cleaning. Does coffee count bc now I want some. Deciding how to structure your off season is confusing isn’t it?

Haha, yes coffee totally counts! Any time is a good time for coffee πŸ˜‰

It’s SO confusing. Just when I think I’ve got a plan I remember a class or something else I had wanted to try. I THINK I’ve got myself set now though…

OMG, this is hilarious and I am totally in the same spot in the desire to keep running and getting jacked at the gym, lol. I ALWAYS gain weight during marathon training despite eating really healthy and I need to get it off, but the only way to do that is to decrease my running!! I want it al!

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one πŸ˜‰ Yes, adding some strength training in will definitely help with the weight! When it comes to cutting down on running I just try to tell myself it’ll make me enjoy my runs that much more!

I watch people at the gym too. I guess as a trainer I can’t help noticing what they’re doing, right or wrong (and no, I don’t offer advice either). I watch what the trainers are doing, either for interesting variations or to “oh my God, what are you doing?” them in my head. Oh, and I count other people’s reps too. It’s ingrained, I can’t help myself πŸ˜ƒ

Haha! Love that you count peoples’ reps. I haven’t done that before but now that I’m thinking about it, it will probably end up happening. And yes, I have a lot of “What are you doing to them?!” moments myself πŸ˜‰

Hilarious that you take preworkout before cleaning! But it totally makes sense. Cleaning is a workout in itself!

And I get the whole booty thing…my coach does all this work to “fire up the glutes” and I just run it all off…

Cleaning IS a workout. Thank you! πŸ˜‰

Those glute activation exercises are great for the booty! I spent so long trying to get my butt more round by doing things like side lunges and whatnot…who knew all I needed to do were clam shells and monster walks?!

I tell everyone who rides a bicycle to try cyclocross in the triathlon off season. It is short and intense with bursts of jumping off a bike and over barriers or up steep hills. Like plyometrics in the middle of an 8K effort cycling race. Very complementary to strength training. And SO MUCH FUN…because when you are done racing there is the HECKLE PIT to join to watch the other races.

Sounds fun!! I’ll have to see if I can find a place to do that around here….as long as it doesn’t involve actually JUMPING off my bike haha

Since I am in race training now I have had a hard time accepting that I am not going to be making any strength training gains! I still lift twice a week, but that is not enough for me to build my body. Oh well, for everything there is a season… But I can relate to your dichotomy!

It’s a tough situation, hey? Good on ya for keeping in the strength training while you’re in race mode!

As you know I too am contemplating another marathon. Now all I need to do is pull the trigger. I have also not been in the water in awhile. Gotta get back in that pool for sure!
