Indigenous Voices Speak: A Spirit Plant Medicine Conference Roundtable
Aaniin, friends.
Back in November of 2022, I had the opportunity to speak at the Spirit Plant Medicine Conference. My talk was titled Untangling from Colonization: an Indigenous Perspective on Restoring our Relationship with the Land and at the time was the largest group of people I had ever spoken in front of.
The circumstances surrounding my invitation to speak at the conference were somewhat…random. I was approached in September by Zoe Helene of Cosmic Sister, based off an Instagram Reel of mine she had seen a few months earlier where I shared some drum teachings.
Throughout most of my career, social media has played a very small part in the opportunities I’ve received, however this was definitely one of those instances where I had to remember that you never know who’s watching!
A few weeks before the conference, I was invited by the organizers to join a roundtable discussion with a few other Indigenous presenters—Chief Phil Lane Jr and Belinda Eriacho—to speak about the role of psychedelic sacraments for a world in transition.
While I was grateful to have the opportunity to share, I was even more grateful to receive the medicine teachings of Chief Phil Lane and Belinda. This was a wonderful and insightful conversation that covers everything from the respectful use of psychedelic medicines to cultural appropriation vs appreciation and more.
You can watch the full conversation below.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
